Physiologist's talk, Everyday Wellness presentation top week's events

Several interesting events are scheduled for the upcoming week at the Medical Center.


Wednesday, July 26

Physiologist to cover chronic inflammation

Kristine DeleonDr. Kristine DeLeon-Pennell, assistant professor of physiology and biophysics and research health scientist in the Research Service at the G. V. (Sonny) Montgomery Veterans Affairs Medical Center, will give the Physiology Seminar Series presentation, “Chronic Inflammation: And the Beat Goes On,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Children’s ES director to share personality traits

Jennifer StephenJennifer Stephen, director of inpatient and emergency services for Children’s of Mississippi, will present the Everyday Wellness talk, “Personality Traits We All Share,” from 12:10-12:50 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, in classroom R354 (upper amphitheatre).

Stephen will discuss how knowing their personality can help individuals in their careers and in their personal lives. All UMMC faculty, staff and students are invited. For more information, email Brea Cole at cbcole@umc.edu.

Physiologist to describe insulin-resistant heart maladaptation

Romain HarmanceyDr. Romain Harmancey, assistant professor of physiology and biophysics, will give the Department of Biochemistry presentation, “Molecular Basis of Postischemic Maladaptation in the Insulin Resistant Heart,” at 3 p.m. on Monday, July 31, in classroom 3A.

UAB professor to give Physiologists in Training Lecture

Suzanne Oparil UABDr. Suzanne Oparil, Distinguished Professor of Medicine, professor of cell, developmental and integrative biology, section chief of vascular, and director of the Vascular Biology and Hypertension Program in the Division of Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, will give the Department of Physiology’s Physiologists in Training Distinguished Lecture, “My Road to Academic Cardiology,” from noon-1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23, in room CW308 of the Classroom Wing.

Chancellor, vice chancellor to speak at faculty meeting

Jeffrey VitterDr. Jeffrey Vitter, University of Mississippi chancellor, and Dr. LouAnn Woodward, vice chancellor for health affairs, are scheduled to speak at the fall faculty meeting at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 31, in classroom R153 (lower amphitheatre).

Vitter and Woodward will provide an update on the university and the Medical Center for the next fiscal year. The agenda also will include a recognition of faculty with 20 years of service.

Full-time faculty members who have 20 years of continuous full-time faculty service are asked to contact Dorothy Singleton by Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the phone number or address listed below.
